21st-Century Teaching and Learning

Name
21st Century Technology Standards, Self-Assessment & Personal Goals
Goal
Something I have always wanted to try but have not is Virtual Field Trips. My goal is to learn more about the opportunities I can give my students by doing a virtual field trip and come up with a list of field trips that will align with the curriculum. My goal is also to at least have one virtual field trip with my students by the end of this school year.
Plan
Do some research about virtual field trips available for Kindergarten.
Ask educators that have done them if they have resources they can share with me.
Choose three virtual field trips that align to the curriculum and have students vote on the one they prefer to have.
Timeline
3 weeks to come up with a list of possible virtual field trips (taken from the research and collaboration with other teachers)
2 weeks to choose 3 virtual field trips and to have students vote on them.
1 week to prepare students (digital citizenship, field trip rules, etc).
1 day for the virtual field trip.
Progress Monitoring
By following the timeline, I can follow the steps more easily in order to provide my students with a fun and engaging learning experience that will be new to not only them, but for me too. I can create a calendar or set a reminder on my Ipad/Phone to keep track of what I am doing and when do I need to be ready.
Success Celebration
Once me and my students have completed a virtual field trip, I want us to do a poster of our take-aways and hang it out of our classroom so we can share our experience with everyone else. Maybe other teachers will become interested and ask about it and be willing to try it next school year. This will also point out the level of understanding the students have on the concept and can give me in-sight of things I need to do to reinforce their knowledge.
Brief Reflection
Like I said before, I have always wanted to do a virtual field trip with my students. I have seen many opportunities but have never really given it too much thought. I know it requires preparation and organization as if it was a normal field trip (and those are stressful!). I know the benefits of an activity like this for my students and I want to be able to open that door of possibilities for them and expose them to other ways of technology integration in the classroom so that their learning is meaningful for them.
Self-Assessment
I am going to create a “TO DO” list based on the timeline above and I am going to make 3 copies of it to have one at home, at school and my computer. By doing this, I will be reminded that I need to complete some tasks in certain amount of time to ensure my students have a virtual field trip before school ends in June. This will keep me organized and I can assess how am I doing with the completion of the tasks on time.
